Career Pursuit CIC Launches 'Your Future' Magazine: Career Support for Young People in Military Families

Career Pursuit CIC (Community Interest Company) Launches Your Future Magazine: Career Support for Young People in Military Families

Career Pursuit CIC, a social enterprise dedicated to empowering Armed Forces families to build a fulfilling career around military life, announced the launch of Your Future on 24th June 2024. This new publication is a groundbreaking online magazine specifically designed to support 16–24-year-olds in military families as they embark on their first job or business venture.

Understanding the Unique Challenges
Military life is an extraordinary experience, but the constant relocations, deployments, and sense of adventure can make navigating career options a challenge. Your Future recognises these unique circumstances and offers the tools and resources young people need to thrive.

Helen Massy, founder, CEO, and editor-in-chief of Career Pursuit and Your Future, stated, “We at Career Pursuit CIC understand the immense challenges young people in military families face as they begin their careers or businesses. That’s why we’re thrilled to launch Your Future – a magazine dedicated to empowering this underserved community. By highlighting free resources and showcasing inspiring stories, we aim to equip them with the tools and confidence to chart a bright future.”

Statistics Highlight the Need
Recent reports from the Service Children’s Progression Alliance state:
* Frequent moves throughout an Armed Forces young person’s journey in education may result in disrupted learning, a higher likelihood of unidentified or unmet needs, and struggles regarding their ability to build and sustain long-standing relationships.

* Nearly half (42%) of parents report that mobility has had an adverse effect on their child’s education, with the other half (47%) reporting that there were mixed effects (National Audit Office, 2013).

* In a 2016 report by McCullouch and Hall, it was estimated that Service children were progressing to higher education at a significantly lower rate than non-Service children. The participation rate for Service children was estimated to be 24% for those aged 18–30 as opposed to 43% for those from non-Service backgrounds.

* Service children have higher rates of family mobility than non-Service children, which can lead to a fall in attainment of at least 15% at GCSE.

Despite these challenges, young people in military families are known for their resilience and adaptability. Your Future aims to empower them with the knowledge and resources to pursue their dreams, whether that’s landing their ideal job or launching their own business.

Developed in Partnership with Experts
Career Pursuit CIC partnered with the Forces Employment Charity (FEC) to create Your Future. This collaboration ensures the magazine provides the most relevant and up-to-date information for young people in military families.

Kelly Wales, Families Education and Skills Liaison at the Forces Employment Charity, says, “At the Forces Employment Charity, we are passionate about supporting all members of the military community to ensure everyone has the best chance of achieving career success, whatever that looks like for them. Our dedicated advisors have all experienced Service life, so we understand first-hand the unique challenges of living in a Forces family and, crucially, the life-changing impact that can be made when people are given the right career support. We are delighted to partner with Career Pursuit CIC on Your Future to help young people from military families receive support from people who truly understand their needs and how to achieve their goals.”

We Couldn’t Have Done It Without...

The generous sponsorship of the Forces Transition Group (FTG) made the launch of Your Future possible. The FTG is dedicated to helping military personnel seamlessly transition into civilian life, and its services extend to young people from military families.

John Stephenson, managing director of the Forces Transition Group, said, “The FTG are truly excited about this new venture to help Career Pursuit enhance the futures of so many younger members of the Force’s community. We know how hard it can be with constant movement whilst parents are in Service and how it can be equally challenging to find that perfect career.

The FTG has sponsored this amazing magazine and supports the incredible work Helen Massy has already done, as we believe younger family members deserve the chance to have an amazing career in whatever it is they want to do. Hopefully, with our dedication and input, we can help add to this already incredible opportunity for all and create so many more futures moving forward.”

Your Future is here to empower young people in the Armed Forces community.
